Why ArcGIS closes every half hour
Hehe, it's funny the answer that the ESRI technical staff gives to the question of why ArcGIS and ArcInfo are so frequently closed

Description
When the Opera browser is installed on a system with ArcGIS, this program interferes with the ArcGIS operation and causes it to shut down systematically
Cause
The Opera browser is not compatible with ArcGIS.
Solution
The Opera browser must be removed from your system.
With support like this who needs manuals :). What happens is that few of us use Opera, and it doesn't matter which browser we use ... you have to get used to living with the constant crashes of the program.
Well said a graffiti:
“Hallelujah, This morning my ArcGIS only crashed three times”

The link is not broken, they just erased it for liability.
Too bad that the link from the esri response is broken (at least 15 June 2009 today).
I think that although the answer is rare, it is not uncommon for this to happen as a program on Microsoft platform, not only ArcGIS can suffer from the house where it is installed and the neighbors with whom it lives.
Then, there are other applications that even on Linux fail, although not because of Linux ... rather because of problems in their code.
At least in my case, I sometimes suffer with the psychological problems of java when an application that uses another version of java of a program that I just installed thunders ... for that there is a remedy, of course, but sometimes if you are not an expert in java, technical support can be a good ally.
raise your hand (if you have it) the error-free program….
… you don't program “hello world”
