First satellite images of 0.41 mts.

After its recent launch, the 6 of September, the first high-resolution images taken by the GeoEye-1 satellite have already been shown.

0.41 resolution meter, that's quite, considering that the best thing that had been walked the subway.

image It should be seen that it can be done with a product like this for cadastral purposes in which the absolute precision is pertinent since this image already has the resolution that is used in orthophoto taken with air flight, because the difficulty is in being able to improve its absolute precision because this has been rectified with a fairly simplified digital terrain model.

It must be understood that this resolution does not mean precision, but rather the area covered by the pixel size. Take a look at the obelisk, where the inclination of the shot is shown with respect to a work of lower height. It is clear that this work has a good relative precision, such that the river goes "through there", however, the axis of a river or the water part of a mountain used to define a basin for environmental purposes is not the same as "the boundary ” identified on a fence, whose absolute accuracy can go for 25 meters but the owner will be willing to stab you for 25 centimeters.

They haven't said much with this announcement, but we don't want to go beyond critics in the style of that book by Ken Alder called “the measure of all things“, so here we translate the poem by Mattew O'Connell, the mere ember of GeoEye:

“We are pleased to release the first images from GeoEye-1, which brings us closer to the start of commercial satellite operations and sales to our customers. This is an important time, and we want to thank our employees, customers, especially the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, strategic partners, vendors, and investors for their support."

All of these shown in the gallery are the product of the fusion of the panchromatic and multispectral image to produce a high resolution image in true-color of 50 centimeters.

We can be critical when demanding what this product cannot give, but we must remember that it is surprising that this image was taken at a height of chorromil meters and at a speed of 4.5 miles per second ... nothing to do with the romance of an airplane flying at 5 thousand feet or the wonders of the boys of Pict'Earth.

In conclusion, we have to expect a lot from this product after the expectations it has aroused, although it is not yet clear how to obtain these images, nor the prices.
