Brazil in the sights of the next “Year in Infrastructure” Conference

At 2004 Bentley Systems started the annual event known as the Be Awards, which was later renamed Be Inspired. Beyond a simple award, in recent years we have seen that the Baltimore Symposium has become a high level conference, not only in the use of technologies for the modeling, design and operation of infrastructures; this year, 2013 has participated in presentations and discussion forums on creativity necessary for the management and operation of projects.

Being there until the end was worth the sentence, when at the close of the event Greg, CEO of Bentley Systems, came to the front and said it in a tone that put a finishing touch to my two weeks of travel and inspiration:

We created the Be Inspired to draw the attention of those who are holding the infrastructure market, and give them the credit for it.

London has been an example of practice, in which Engineering applied to the Olympic Games it has been demonstrated with impressive projects; an exercise that goes out of common in the sale of software. How a company together with private and public companies develop a modernization plan to 15 years, where the intelligence of the city is based on the life cycle of infrastructures starting from BIM principle.

It is interesting as Bentley instead of competing for market that have ESRI, AutoDesk and Intergraph, decides to focus on a specific niche from the V8i; an i that means for them the three main products: Information Modeling (Applications on Microstation), Project Integration (Project Wise) and Intelligent Infrastructures (Asset Wise). Hence, his insistence on research Top 500 Infrastructure owners where public and private entities ordered according to the investment in infrastructure they own are registered. Brazil, Spain and Mexico stand out in this ranking from the Ibero-American context. It is also interesting to mention the inclusion of other actors in the context, such as SIEMENS with whom Bentley hopes to enter the machinery manufacturing market and Trimble, which is the best example of benchmarking between information capture, modeling and operation ... we understand it in the medium term as an inevitable merger (not only of the BIM cycle), but surely with much more intelligence than the simple acquisition of Intergraph / Leica / ERDAS after the acquisition by Hexagon.

Why Brazil?

Although, anyone would have guessed that the next event would be in China, the figures are not consistent. The return on investment of America for Bentley is much better than in Asia (43% of employees, 45% of utilities) contrary to 26% / 19% of Asia; It is also interesting that Colombia is the country with the highest growth in the adoption of its technology in 2013. It is known that America is being a center of attraction after its atypical resistance to the great economic depressions (while all fall, Latin America grows). Independently if it can not fall further, we are aware that the natural resources and potential of our continent will become increasingly attractive to international investment. Added to this, there are several antecedents of why Brazil is the candidate for this event in the next two years, not only as a power emerging from the BRICS:

brasil flag1 The Top 500 Infrastructure Ownership indicates that Brazil is in the 12 avo based on the value, although it does not figure in terms of quantity, which denotes that the development and operation of infrastructures is in the hands of large companies; contrary to India and Spain, to give examples. We know Bentley's market policy, which instead of looking for many small clients, focuses on large and strategic companies that will take value out of their products in all their breadth.

2 In Brazil the World Cup will be held next year, and in 2016, the Olympic Games; events that entail the construction of large infrastructure works, but also an exercise of worldwide visibility that makes it an inevitable investment pole.

3 The acquisition of Char Pointer, the company that created the TopoGRAPH software, as a step to increase the growth of the market in Brazil in a 25% in one fell swoop. We had seen Bentley positioning itself in Brazil on the offshore platforms, generating and transmitting energy; with this we will see it entering a market that Char Pointer already has in terms of road, railway and other infrastructure related to territorial development.

With this, I might dare to say that in 2015 -if not that 2014- We will have the great Year in Infrastructure Conference, the Be Inspired and CIO Workshop in Sao Paulo.

So that:

It was run like a prevejo, we are nós.
