World Congress of Planners

image The Global Planners Network this month requested dissemination assistance with an aspect of their work that will be the context for discussions about the IV World Urban Forum (WUF4) of UN Habitat, to be held in Nanjing this year .
Prior to the fourth edition of the WUF, the World Congress of Planners will meet in Zhenjiang, China, to address the issues of urbanization, poverty and climate change around the world. These two events offer great opportunities for those involved in planning activities to make a greater impact on the global agenda. The key challenge is to increase the capacity to address the challenges faced in the XNUMXst century in planning sustainable settlements for the world's growing urban population.

To this end, the RTPI, with the support of the Commonwealth Association of Planners and the Lincoln Institute, will seek to assess the current capacity for planning around the world in terms of legislation, professional training, inclusive processes, and civic leadership and vision. Of future. Your success will depend on getting as many people working in planning activities as possible around the world to share their personal experiences and views. To achieve this, they have prepared a self-diagnosis web tool that will allow them to evaluate their personal experience. You can access it through the following link: http://tinyurl.com/2gbffk

So if you work on land-use planning issues, spread the word in case any of your contacts are in a position to use the self-diagnosis tool for more than one country.
The results of the study will be published this year and presented at the Zhenjiang Congress; The conclusions are expected to be part of the communiqué that will be addressed to the IV World Urban Forum.
If you need more information or advice, do not hesitate to contact Vincent Goodstadt, President of the International Committee of the RTPI or Judith Eversley, responsible for international affairs of the RTPI (Judith.eversley@rtpi.org.uk).

If you want to ask a practical question about the tool, the right people to answer it are responsible for the survey: Will French (Will.french@rtpi.org.uk) and Lucy Natarajan (Lucy@natarajan.co.uk).
