Second day, search and inspiration

Today has been a great Monday, the morning has surprised us with many birds singing. We left early to fill up with fuel and started up the mountain to the small coffee-growing towns to look for the family of the boy my friend sponsored, acting as a detective, in these cases one possibility may be to search the basic school centers, knowing in what year who is we seek. Although the children are on vacation, the principals or teachers of the schools usually live in the communities and have lists of students per year.

Usually, a sponsorship for a child in a Hispanic country could be $ 60 per month, it is not much, but when you are in the mountains and you see the adobe, wattle and daub houses, you realize that that can be a lot. Doing a search requires more than just Google Earth, chart data, photos, and important details can be helpful. A sponsor may not have much passion for traveling to a poor country to see a boy's family, but as emotional as Google Earth can be, knowing that his father died not long ago can be important. Like any Anglo-American who has never been to a Latin country, you can think:

I go to the airport, I drive a car, I take the route to the village and I meet the boy's family

Well no, the fact of not having the community where the boy lives can be a great difficulty, because if only the municipality is known, it can easily have 25 villages and about 85 hamlets distributed in the mountains. Additionally, my friend, after seeing how my countrymen drive, thanked heaven that I am his pilot, There is not much road education in these areas.

My friend has enjoyed his trip, he has loved the mountains, the food, the people, he has suffered the terrible heat of Easter but above all he was surprised that with U $ 22 we had breakfast for 6 people in the hotel restaurant. In the mountains of Colorado, where the people of your city vacation, $ 22 is not enough for a single person's breakfast.

The photo above, my friend with everything and his belly taking an old-fashioned photo, with his eye glued to the viewfinder. Below is the view from that height of the community from where we started ... that's way up.

MochitoIn the first community we found a 14-year-old boy, whose father allowed him to accompany us on the tour, this is unusual in other countries but here it is possible. My mother accompanied us to generate greater trust and after we asked the father if he trusts us to take him he said:

Go, take it, I know that you are willing to help.

The boy who accompanied us has taken several profits at the end of the tour:

  • His father lives in the United States, and has no job, My friend lives near his city and has given the number of his company to help if possible.
  • We have shown you Google Earth halfway to orient ourselves to where the communities that school principals mentioned to us were. The boy had never accessed the Internet, but very good at Social Studies, he understood him very well applying his Geography class; As we zoomed in and saw the level of detail in the high resolution image, her jaw dropped, like that old Poison record said Ahhh. Like anyone who searches Yahoo Answers, he asked if it was possible to see in real time ... and I think he understood better than thousands who still believe otherwise.
  • He also won $ 25 at the end of the tour with which he will surely buy a mobile phone and will wear it in front of his friends who did not want to join us.

Look at this magnificent path, there are ox carts, only the passion of a good-hearted man to find a poor child, and my audacity to believe that my truck passes by was enough.

We start at 9 am, finish at 3 pm. With everything and the good landscapes, the very friendly people, my truck that is a donkey; the disappointment at the end of the day in the three basic centers was great.

... the boy is not there.

We have some other clues that we got in the communities, we'll see tomorrow what happens.
