Geomoments - Emotions and Location in a single app

What is Geomoments?

The fourth industrial revolution has filled us with great technological advances and the integration of tools and solutions to achieve a more dynamic and intuitive space for the inhabitant. We know that all mobile devices (cell phones, tablets, or smartwatch) are capable of storing a large amount of information, such as bank details, data related to physical condition, and especially location data.

We recently received the surprise of the launch of a new application that combines the emotional state, the environment and the location of an event. Geomoments is the name, it was created in mid-2020 in the midst of a pandemic, and in this article we will do a review. According to the developer, it is a social network, which he described as “a global network of moments, or experiences ... A gigantic warehouse where we store and share our moments, experiences, events that happen to us on a certain date and place. ”.

GeoMoMents is a hybrid application developed with loníc, which uses the resources of the Google cloud, Fírebase, for storage, messaging and hosting. The information is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, a noSql database. The files of the photographs are stored in Google Cloud Storage. Firebase Messagíng is used for instant messaging.

How does Geomoments work?

First, we will show you the user interface and how you can start collecting your Geomoments. After downloading the application from Play store (Android), install it on the mobile device and open it, the first thing that appears is a detailed description of how GeoMoMents works. For iPhone devices, the application will be available in mid-2021. Likewise, they added a button to log in with Google quickly, and a notice appears to allow the location of the device. Subsequently, the data of the GeoMoMents (GMM) account is shown, it is possible to add a “nickname” or nickname, and the information that the user has uploaded in the application is also displayed.

GeoMoMents is a repository of moments, a specific place, on a specific date, an emotion, a memory to save and share with the world.

Then you can access the main menu, where you will have access to different actions: start, new GMM, my GMM, GMMs online map, Explore (soon), online games (soon), configure alerts, account and help. For now there are several of them that are not available, but we experiment with those that we do have access to. In the home area there is a basic panel, where you can add a new Gmm, view the GMMs, review the GMMs online map, and manage the user account. To add a moment is quite simple, we touch the option "New GMM" and immediately a new screen will appear with the data that we must add.

It is curious that it is managed with the user's emotions, there is an "emotions" button (1) where you can choose a very specific one through an Emoji, accompanied by the social environment (2) where that emotion is felt (social, family, friends, work, school or team). Personally, I think I would add more social environments, but as these are usually the most basic, the experience in each of them is included.

All data in GeoMoMents is spatio-temporal. You can only view and comment on GeoMoMents that are close in space and time to your own GeoMoMent.

Then, you choose the intensity level of that emotion on a scale from 0 to 10 (3), and also if you want to share the moment publicly or save it anonymously in the app (4). Description (5) is an important point if you want to remember exactly what happened that day, something like a diary. Finally, we can add a photo of the event that marked that Geomoment. At the end, the map appears with the exact location where you are recording the moment (6), although personally I consider that it is an option that could be improved in future updates, perhaps adding the possibility of moving the location where you want to record the moment if the person It is not connected with Wi-Fi or mobile data.

A photograph of the moment can also be added to the record (7). When you touch the save button, the application displays the message "GMM created successfully", and if we locate "My GMMs" in the main menu, all the Geomoments that we have added will appear loaded, with the date and time of creation. In this part of the application we can: view the record, refresh the information or delete the record.

Something you should know is that you cannot add several Geomoments in an interval less than 6 hours, the application gives the alert that not enough time has passed yet, which could also be considered a deficiency - although we understand that it is the first version of the application-, if the user is traveling and visits several places in less than 6 hours, it is impossible to record that moment.

At the end of the records, in the main area of the application, a summary of the Geomoments that have been created appears. For the example, the information shown is 1 GMM in the cloud, 1 GMM local, the other data remains at 0 until the corresponding information is added. If you have not used the application for a long time, you can refresh the interface in the update button. Another warning that the application makes is not to lose the data of the Google account with which it is synchronized, since if that happens it would be impossible to access the data registered in Geomoments.
